Chairman's Message:

Hello again,

Another year, another fair and another year closer to our 700th St Lawrence Day celebrations.

We should be rightly proud of this - one of England’s longest running fairs.

This year’s fair is all about the final frontier, whether that be space, wild west, science or exploration. The interpretation has been left open to you. It was decided on this subject to celebrate Britain’s achievements in these fields.

This year’s charity is Cancervive which is a local charity, based in Hurst, offering support and counselling to those who are affected by cancer, both directly and indirectly.

From all the committee and myself, we hope that you enjoy this year’s events and appreciate the effort that has been put into making this event happen year after year. Whilst we are on this subject - we need more people to get involved in the running of the fair. We need people who are prepared to put themselves out a little to ensure the continued success of this event and indeed the continued running of this event. Please make contact with any of the committee members and lend your support for next year’s event - or there may well not be one !!!!!!

On your behalf, I would like to thank all this year’s committee, all the extra helpers on the day, all the stall holders, Harris’ Fun Fair, The Round Table, Parish and Mid Sussex DC, Sussex Police, Hurst Traders and everyone who has helped in the organisation but most of all thanks to you for making it great!

The St Lawrence Fair is one of the oldest traditional Village Fairs in the United Kingdom. Granted a Royal Charter in 1313 by King Edward I, the Charter allows one Fair each year to be held to celebrate St. Lawrence, the Patron Saint of Hurstpierpoint. It is thought that the Fair has taken place every year with the exception of the years encompassing the two World Wars.

The Fair is now run by a volunteer committee, who endeavour to raise enough money to run the fair every year. Each year we make a donation to a local charity, in addition many other charities and voluntary groups benefit from the fair's activities. Last year in total a substantial amount was raised by all groups including the local scouts, WI and other charities. Many of our local charities and benefactors can be found on or links page. This site is a guide to the Hurspierpoint St. Lawrence Fair, please visit us on Fair day -we look forward to seeing you there.
