A Timely Moment for Hurst’s St Lawrence Fair

Earlier this year Hurstpierpoint’s St Lawrence Fair Committee asked villagers to come up with an idea for a theme for this year’s fair on July 5th.

Suggestions ranged from movies via the 1960’s to countries and soap operas but at the end of the day the fair committee decided on “One Moment in Time”, or as one committee member described it, “history with a catchy name”.

Plans are well advanced for the July event which will feature the usual mixture of music, Harris Brothers Funfair and arena events, a fun run, the procession through the village and, the week before, a cycle treasure hunt, Teddy Bear’s Picnic and plenty of other activities around the village.

Since the 14th Century the village has celebrated the Feast of St Lawrence when the Fair was granted a Royal Charter by Edward II.

The fair is not only a chance for the village to let its hair down, but also an opportunity to raise money for local charities.
